Fizz Buzz

A counting game

Instructions

Fizz Buzz is a counting game that requires the players to use their listening skills and concentration.

You need at least two people to play, and this can work in groups of any size – even really big ones!

How to play

Sit in a circle.

Firstly, start counting from one upwards around the circle.

But don’t say any number which is a multiple of 3 (6, 9, . . . 117!) or ends in 3 (13, 23, etc), instead, replace these with the word “buzz”.

And if a number is a multiple of 5 (10, 20, 100 . . .) or ends in a 5 (25, 65, . . .) replace it with the word “fizz”.

Replace any number which falls into both categories  (eg 15 divides by 3 and by 5) with “fizz-buzz”.

See how high collectively you can count to.

Variations

Try playing with different numbers — threes and fours, fives and sevens, etc

Take it further

This is taken from the book Games, Games, Games, a publication with around 250 group games. The games are essentially co-operative in nature and develop skills and attitudes which encourage learning together and supporting one another.

If you enjoyed this, you could try some other number games — can you get the lowest unique number?

It is great we are starting to have face to face activities again – make sure you and your group stay safe by following our latest guidelines on physical meetings.
