Take a walk and look at all the different sorts of leaves

Instructions

A leaf walk is a great way to focus. on your attention on the beautiful leaves around you.

Leaf Walk

Take a walk. As you go look out for all the different types of leaves you can see.

Some are big and some are small. You can find leaves that are curvy and leaves that are pointy. Some are fuzzy and some are shiny. Some are green and some are not!

Take a photo of them, or draw a picture of them.

Types of Leaf

How many different types of leaf did you see? Do you know what plants they are from?

You can find out about what shape the leaves of different trees are here. These are mostly for trees that grow in the UK, but if you look online there are lots of sheets for other countries too. There are also some great apps for your phone – including this free one for trees commonly found in the UK from the Woodland Trust.

Discover the Wild also have some great identification sheets by season for plants, insects, fungi etc so you can identify all sorts of things that you find on your walk!

Why not do the same walk in a month’s time and see if the leaves have changed?

Take It Further

If you enjoyed your leaf walk you might want to try getting creative with leaves or going on a colour walk.
