Musical Statues

The classic party game

Instructions

Musical Statues is a classic group game, but we have added a few twists to make it even more fun!

How to play

You will need someone to lead the game.

When the music starts, the players move around the space in any direction.

As the music stops, all the players “freeze” becoming musical statues.

The leader calls out a character or an action, and everybody has to turn themselves into an appropriate statue (for example, a chimney sweep, ice skater, somebody standing on the window ledge of a very tall building, a cat in front of a fire).

When the music starts, players continue to move around.

Variations

As the players unfreeze, give instructions of how to move around to the music — slowly, excitedly, lazily, backwards, etc.

Special Notes

It may be helpful to prepare a list of suggestions beforehand. However, it is a great idea to include the players and ask for their ideas.

Take it further

This is taken from the book Games, Games, Games, a publication with around 250 group games. The games are essentially co-operative in nature and develop skills and attitudes which encourage learning together and supporting one another.

For another fun, silly and active game, try playing elephant and palm tree.

It is great we are starting to have face to face activities again – make sure you and your group stay safe by following our latest guidelines on physical meetings.
